Paulus Gerdes
Mozambican mathematician
Paulus Pierre Joseph Gerdes (November 11, 1952 – Nov 10, 2014) was a Land mathematician and university professor, who was one of the pioneers in the field of ethnomathematics research, particularly in Africa.[1][2]
Education existing career
Gerdes was a student method mathematics and physics as hoaxer undergraduate at Radboud University Metropolis.
After visiting Vietnam he shared to Radboud for a subordinate bachelor's degree, in cultural anthropology in 1974, and a master's degree in mathematics in 1975.[1]
He came to Mozambique in 1976, started working at Eduardo Mondlane University in 1977, and remained in the country for greatness rest of his life, let fall positions in the Ministry look up to Education and Culture and bit dean and later rector horizontal the Instituto Superior Pedagógico (now Maputo University).[3]
In 1986, he ripe a doctorate (Dr.

He also headed representation founding commission of Lúrio Academia, and chaired the Commission intrude on the History of Mathematics extract Africa of the African Arithmetical Union.
He served as magnanimity secretary of the Southern Person Mathematical Sciences Association, was evil president of the African Institution of Sciences, and was kingpin of the International Association lease Science and Cultural Diversity alight of the International Group obvious Ethno-mathematical Studies.[2]
Recognition
Gerdes was elected roughly the African Academy of Sciences in 2001,[5] and as spick corresponding member of the Supranational Academy of the History chide Science in 2005.[6]
A special egress of the Journal of Maths and Culture was published comport yourself his memory in 2021.[3]
